The Firefly Talk Serenity prop giveaway!
Hello, and welcome to the Firefly Talk podcast short article-writing contest! We thought
this would be a fun way to collect some articles for the podcast for the new year!
But don't let the word "article" scare you. We're looking for short pieces,
roughly 1,200-1,600 words; about two pages long, as typed into your typical word
processor. (1,000 words is the barest minimum!) Consider it an extended email, if that seems less daunting!
Considering the stakes are high (the first-place winner will be getting an
actual prop from Serenity, after all), you might wonder whether there are particular
types of articles we'd like. Really, any sort of topic related to Firefly or
Serenity is appropriate. If you need help finding some candidates, it might help
to consider
what parts of the series or the movie you've found yourself talking about the most,
or thinking about -- things that other people might not consider.
Ideally, the article should express a unique viewpoint, reaction, or
thought about the 'Verse. You might also consider the things in your own background
and interests that the average fan might not have, and how they've affected your
experience of Joss' creation. And if you can think of an entertaining way to
educate our listeners or in any
way enhance our enjoyment of Firefly and Serenity, you're on the right track.
You can also go to our home page and see what sort of articles we've run in the past --
that might get the wheels turning!
You may enter as many articles as you wish. The deadline for article submission is February 10th, 2006. Articles should
be emailed to fireflytalk@gmail.com.
The winners will be announced during
Valentine's Day week (as celebrated in the States), which is rather appropriate
for our prop, considering it's perfect for Simon/Kaylee fans...
1st Prize
Here's a screen capture of the first-place prize:

It comes with a certificate of authenticity from The Prop Store of London.
Kaylee is also likely holding it in
the opening sequence, as Mal leaves the engine room, although
we're not quite sure.
But it should be considered Kaylee's wrench...it surely wasn't in Simon's medkit!

2nd Prize
The second place will winner will recieve a custom piece of art drawn by one
of our listeners,
Paige...quite a talented artist! She will draw a piece
based on the subject of the second-place
